Childbirth Class...

Rob and I finished up our childbirth classes last week and aside from looking absolutely horrified at the first (rather graphic) birth video I thought Rob was being quite the trooper about it all. We had gotten through the classes without him running away screaming, so I had thought we were all good, until the last class in which we went over post-labor issues.

Rob being the studious student that he is, was coloring in the people on the "labor techniques" flier while the teacher happened to be going over what to expect post-birth and pulled out the mesh undies for all to look at. Rob being engrossed in his coloring didn't really pay attention and me, feeling that this was an important part of the class started subtly elbowing him in the side...just in time for the teacher to pull out the (dum dum dum) PAD. Ah the post-birth pad, which bears and amazing resemblance to a king sized down pillow:

Rob happened to look up right at the moment the teacher pulled out the pad and exclaimed:

"Where does THAT go???"

The teacher laughed at him and demonstrated how said "pillow" fit into the mesh undies, and not very well if I might say so myself, the pad dwarfed those poor mesh panties.

Rob: "No really, WHERE DOES THAT GO?"

Everyone laughed but Rob told me when we got into the car that he was totally serious. He cannot imagine how something like that fits into a pair of panties. I think the hardest part about the childbirth classes were not the videos full of full on naked ladies naturally birthing their babies, not the class on placenta or c-sections, but the horrific realization that there will be a necessity for a full on king sized pillow to be shoved into my fancy mesh panties. Poor guy!

Had a doctor's appointment today. I am now 1 1/2 centimeters dilated, 60% effaced and my cervix is midline (whoo hoo)! I suppose all of this means she could come tomorrow or she could come in two weeks. Who knows! I'm hoping before Christmas but not in the middle of the upcoming huge snowstorm (the third one this week, unheard of in Oregon) because I'd like to actually MAKE it to the hospital and not have the baby in the freezing snow on the side of Highway 26, not to mention my doctor, who I LOVE, is OUT OF TOWN the December 26th through January 4th (the nerve of her, going on vacation). My bags are packed and ready to go so come on Miss Lucy, we're ready when you are!

Lucy's Room - complete except for my rocking chair we need to get from my mom's house.

Super cute moses basket for beside our bed/ downstairs:

The crazy SNOW and our Christmas tree!

And, drumroll please, my massive self at 37 weeks knocked up!

Oh...that is good. Josh almost passed out during the video. Another reason I am thankful we had a c. He didn't have to see much blood that way.

I am SO excited to see baby Lucy!!!! And so excited L.F. is going to have a girl too. Lucy will have a little girl friend.

You're so close! YAY!!! I sure hope things will work out for your doc to deliver Lucy. Isn't it so sad, and crazy, to think that the person who has looked after your pregnancy for 9 mos may not deliver your baby?! I hate that!!!

Lucy's room is amazing! You did a great job!

Okay, I've officially overused exclamation marks! LOL. (just had to add one more for good measure)

Whisper to Lucy to do Mom and Dad a big favor and be born before 1/1. You will get a much deserved tax break if she is born in 2008!!! (I am a CPA!)

What a cute nursery!

Delurking. :)

As someone who very recently had to wear the mesh panties and the awful hospital pads, I say stock up on your overnight pads with wings -- wings are the only thing keeping them in place.

Good luck!!

Lucy's room looks great! And it will look even more beautiful when she arrives. Hope she makes her appearance before Christmas, as you want her to! Best of luck with everything.

I've been following your blog for a couple months and let me tell you, I just had my baby 2 weeks ago and as scary as those pads and mesh undies are, they are WONDERFUL!! They feel like a giant diaper (as you would imagine) but you have NO worries of leaking.

As crazy as it may sound you will be in LOVE with the mesh underwear and the pillow sized pads. I wore them until I left the hospital. My nurses always brought me new ones when I asked but I have heard stories of people rinsing out the mesh undies so that they can wear them again because they only got a certain number of them. They are probably one of the best inventions for post-partum, that and the squirt bottle! (did they show you that?!?!)

We never took the classes, so the king size pillow pads and mesh undies were a complete surprise to me! The nurses handed me everything and just expected me to know what to do with them. Yeah right! Very strange...

Your belly is so cute! I can't wait to see baby Lucy!

Your husband's response to the pillow-sized pad was hilarious!

Lucy's room is gorgeous and so are you! I hope the last days (or weeks) of your pregnancy are good to you. :)

delurking also to say that i ADORED the pads and mesh undies from the hospital. no getting your own stuff dirty and the mesh things were really comfortable, imo :)

Hi! I found your blog one day and have enjoyed seeing your progress. I am actually 19 weeks pregnant and we found out we are having a girl, as well. I have picked out the same crib and bedding as you and just wanted to say how excited I was to see someone else thought it was cute too! Question: where did you get your crib skirt? I didn't like the one that you can get to match the Brooke bedding, and LOVE the one you chose. Would love to get one just like yours!
Best of luck to you and your upcoming daughter's birth!

Yay! I hope you have good weather when you go into labor, and that your doc is around.

I'm due on the 30th myself. I wish I knew when my little guy is coming! The suspense is all part of the fun, I think.

Best wishes!

Swipe as many of those pads as you can!! Once you run out you'll have to get the mega size maxi pads.

And just another small suggestion, get some underwear you can toss after wards.

Congrats and good luck on your upcoming delivery. We pray for a safe welcome for Ms. Lucy.

Can you please tell me where you got the mobile in the nursery? I love it! Thanks and Happy Holidays from CA! :)

It seems not possible now, but you will grow to covet the mesh underwear and huge pads. I actually talked my nurse into giving me a big supply to take home with me! Those things were lifesavers :)

As much as you want to throw away everything from the hospital, those granny mesh panties are gold. Keep them. take extras if you can. they really are the only ones that fit the boat-pads. For me, they were the only ones that didn't hurt my c-section scar.

You are absolutely beautiful and you do NOT look huge! You're sooo cute! I can't wait for Lucy to arrive and I really hope it's before Christmas! Thanks for posting all the wonderful pictures!

The crib skirt is from Pottery Barn kids and was on sale in-store there for like $19.00 last weekend. Sweet!

The mobile was also from Pottery Barn Kids, I found it online randomly in the sale section for like $14.00 along with this super cute nest to hang from the ceiling that I'm going to put little blue "eggs" into!
