Sleeping Like A Baby...

Thank you all for your suggestions about our cloth diapering problem. I'm going to try her with the Bum Genius 3.0s this next week. One thing I think might have been the problem is that she had some shots on Tuesday and the cloth diapers are rubbing pretty close to where she got her dTap injection, which is supposed to be the most tender. I'm going to give her a couple days to fully get over the shots and then try again. If at first you don't succeed...right?

Speaking of her immunizations, I was really nervous about them. I spoke with her doctor and she agreed that we would put Lucy on a rolling immunization schedule. Instead of all four of the initial immunizations at once she got two on Tuesday and will get the next two next month. I feel better about this because I feel like getting them all at once is hard on a tiny baby like Lucy, hell, it would be hard on a big baby like myself! She did really well, me...well, not so much. She was sitting on my lap all happy and then WHAM! the nurses counted to three and gave her a shot in each leg. She let out a scream that just about tore my heart out. She was fine within 5 minutes but it took my a couple hours to get over feeling guilty about putting my poor sweet Lucy through that!

So, I hate to jinx a good thing but lets get to the title of this post, "Sleeping like a Baby". Who, you may ask, is sleeping like a baby? Answer: We all are! Hurrah! Ever since our vacation in Florida Lucy has been sleeping 6-8 hours every night (apparently she just needed a vacation, it is hard work being a baby, right?). It is pure bliss! We pop her in her bassinet at around 9:00 pm, she sleeps while Rob and I watch whatever show happens to be on that night. I grab her at 10:30 or 11:00 pm and she'll sleep eat, seriously, she won't even wake up, and then I simply pop her back in the bassinet and then she sleeps usually until 5:30 or 6:30 am!

When I told the doctor about it, to make sure it was ok she was going that long without eating, she said that some babies simply get themselves on a nighttime sleeping schedule early in life and to enjoy it while we can (who knows when she'll decide that sleeping through the night is totally boring). It is wonderful, hopefully this continues on when I go back to work next month. We will see!

I'm still plugging away on my SUPER long "Things We Love/Hate" post, bear with me as apparently there are LOTS of things I love/hate. I will show you one thing I love and just cannot live without:

Best thing I've ever done!

She is so adorable. Hurray for sleep! The shots are pretty traumatic, but they'll never remember them...you will, but she won't!

She's so sweet! Looks like she has your nose :) I think I'll do what you're doing and just break up the shots to no more than 2 pokes in one visit. Just too much for a little one!

Hope to meet Lucy soon! I'm glad she's being a good sleeper for you!

It's pretty amazing isn't it? Being a mom is by far the coolest thing I've ever done. Ever.

We did the same thing with our son's immunization schedule.

I'm so excited for you that she's sleeping so long! My son was great for a while and then started knocking his paci out which threw us for a loop for a little while, but now he *MUST* get his 13 hours. So a few months of mayhem was totally worth it. I hope she sticks with it!

My baby slept 8 hours starting at 7weeks and never looked back. She just kept sleeping longer and longer at night and she is now a year old and still sleeps 12 hours at night. I hope that happens for you - it makes life so much easier! Mommies need sleep! She is just beautiful!

Yay for sleeping through the night!!! It's a wonderful thing :)
Shots are the worst...no matter how you look at it. We also NEVER give him more than 2 shots at once. If you can separate them like that I don't know why these doctors just don't do it that way for everyone...so stupid if you ask me.
She really is a beautiful little baby girl :)

Nights like that are great! My daughter slept 12 hours straight through until she turned 4 months and began rolling over. Now she wakes up at least 1x! Hope it lasts for you!! LOL!

Congrats, Bev! Lucy is beautiful. I have good news for you... my five month old starting sleeping through then night (without feedings even) at 6 weeks and she has never gone back. I hope it's the same with you guys :)

It might be the bulk of the diaper that's annoying her. Or even the fabric. Try all the different options out here (and my advice is one size to get the most bang for your buck!)

I stumbled onto your blog while blog hopping. Anyway I would love to hear more about your experiences with cloth diapering. I am considering it with my little one due in May, but have been going back and forth on what to do. I really want to try them, but was thinking maybe I should wait until the baby is 3-6 months old. I plan to breastfeed and know how much they poop in the first few months. What are your thoughts? You can respond to my question on my blog or email me privately at teacheroftwos@yahoo.com

Thanks!

just my 2 cents on cloth. We use indian cotton prefolds (very absorbent..several pees b/f they feel very wet..but you must pre-wash them 5 or six times to make them so absorbant) and thirsties covers. My chipmunk was born a few weeks before Lucy and weighs 11 pounds. She wears the infant sized prefolds and the x-small thirsties covers and has since 4 weeks of age. Thirsties also makes a fitted diaper, but they'll break the bank. I use snappis to fasten the prefolds. They are a bit bulkier than disposables, but not terribly so, and chipmunk seems fine with them. She never has rubbing or irritation around her legs or waist like she did the few times I used disposables. I think the fit is key, and the thirsties are the highest rated covers out there. i have heard lots of good things about bumgenius, too, though, and they are the highest rated all-in-ones. the cadillac of cloth diapers! But prefolds and covers are nice though b/c you don't have to stuff a bunch of all-in-ones. And I think they may be less bulky than all-in-ones. Let us know how it goes. Don't give up without trying a few prefolds and thirsties covers!

Bev - can you let me know how the BumGenious ones work? My sister is planning to use cloth diapers, and I hear this is a good one...so if you can message me to confirm this, that would be great!

Lucky dawg! Seriously soak in those zzzzzzzzs as much as you can just in case the tide changes. I might also recommend selectively vaccinating. Not sure if you can do this if Lucy will be in day care, but there are several vaccinations that are not really necessary. Polio--pretty much gone except in Africa so more of a travel shot, Hep B--maybe when she's older as it's primarily an STD and needle disease, Rotovirus--stomach flu vaccine, really?? Known in medical circles as a "luxury vaccine", Chicken pox--wears off when they really need it and increases risk for teen pox, not necessary, MMR--I'd push this out as long as possible *just in case* there is an undiscovered link to neurological problems. Hope that's all food for thought.

Hi Bev, I am really looking forward to your post on what you have found useful/wasteful! I am newly pregnant and have followed you for quite some time. I do appreciate your thoughts.
