On A Lighter Note...Real Food!

We introduced Lucy to solid foods yesterday! She's been chomping at the bit every time we eat, trying to grab our food and our cups that we decided that at almost 5 1/2 months we would try her on solids.

We started with Earth's Best Organic Rice Cereal. According to the box you mix one tablespoonful of cereal with 3-4 tablespoonfuls of breast milk. Yum! Actually it didn't look appetizing at all, but hey, she doesn't know the difference, right? She made the funniest faces when we gave it to her. She looked so excited for the spoon and opened her mouth right up only to look so confused when it actually got in her mouth. So funny! I'm thinking one tablespoonful actually made it into her little tummy, the rest was one her face, on her bib and then went down the sink as she lost interest about 5 minutes in. Regardless, it is pretty exciting. Rob is already planning all the gourmet baby foods he will be making her. We have all sorts of fruits and veggies that we grow in our yard just waiting to be turned into baby food for Lucy. Next week we're hoping to start bananas as Trader Joe's sells their organic bananas for super cheap!

What an exciting time!! It's so funny how quickly they go from not really liking it to eating all different kinds of food and absolutely loving it!

Bananas are so easy to make! That's the first food I made. Mush up some bananas, throw them in a blender or food processor with some water and done.

I threw in a little lemon juice as well so they wouldn't brown so fast. They freeze really well and defrost really well too! And they taste a million times better than Gerber! Good luck.

Not only eating, but by the looks of it, eating by herself! Eating solids is so much fun, and the different faces they make are priceless! Check off another milestone :)

She's so adorable!
Gotta love that rice cereal, it's almost as good as eating cardboard...I used to look at it and say "I can't believe we feed our children this"
She'll be gobbling up all the yummy home made stuff in no time!

What a charming and smart baby. The picture of Lucy and Harley is great. Don't you love the disposition of hound dogs? Children and hound dogs were made to coexist.

That's a cute pic of you and Lucy, you sure are glowing! I had no idea she was a Red Sox fan. Good for her! If you want a bit of unsolicited advice (I know, we all hate it!), I wished I had done prunes first. Then if they get constipated (as bananas and cereal can do), you have something quick and effective to give them.

cute pics, i can't believe how big she is getting. just caught up on other posts too. Thanks for sharing on the working vs sahm. I'm going back too, know it will be difficult at first, but also know it is what's best for me and my family.

How fun! the beginning of solid foods is such and experience. It is ok that she only got a little into her tummy because when you start solid foods it is not for nutrition it is just for the experience. She will get her nutrition from her main milk source. You should get the Super Baby Food Book. Great resource and has really good recipes in it! HAVE FUN!

She is adorable. Emily gave me your site. I am enjoying following you and your family. I just finished IVF with a BFP on Monday. I see how wonderful life is with a bundle of joy and can't wait. I will keep checking back.

I loved the weening process. Have you seen the Anabel Karmel book? Both my babies were weened and fed on her recipes.

Just a word of warning: rice cereal and bananas can both constipate. =)

We switched to oatmeal cereal and are lucky that Bubeaner LOVES prunes. I love him, but he's strange like that. =)

I was wondering if you can email me info on Cloth diapering. I really want to start, but need to know exactly what to buy and where to get it all for cheap. My baby is one month old and weighs 10.12lbs. I would like to try fitted cloth diapers so that I don;t have to keep buying more. Any advise would be appreciated!

Hey Bev, you don't have to publish this comment, because it's not really about the post, I just want to say that I am so very happy for you and your husband and this beautiful baby girl!! Your journey has really touched me and I'm grateful to have had our lives cross, sort of!! I only say this because I was thinking about my blog when I first started and how it was all fine and dandy to write tons of things... and then I realized, what if some weirdo is looking at my kid?!? That sort of freaked me out..that and the fact that my husband is now in a pretty high position with the company he's with now... I went to a private blog. I suspect at some point you may too, or you will just continue to post very little. Either way, I just wanted to say thank you for everything (IF that should happen) and I wish you the best with the next 3 babies you have!!!
