Pumpkin Patch In Pictures...

Last Saturday we took a trip to Sauvie's Island Pumpkin Patch, which we visit every year to go through the corn maize and then take a hayride to get our pumpkins. It was so much fun, as always. The day was a gorgeous, sunny day and we had such a wonderful time! I even bought pears and apples at the patch's market to bake pies the next day. So fun! I'll also share my pie-making and recipe at the end of this post because I have found the best.pie.ever!

Now for my pie! The pie a recipe I found on Cooking Light and it is truly the best pie I have ever had so I thought I should share. It is a Pear Pie with Streusel Topping and Caramel Sauce. I found it very extremely easy to make and the only changes I would make the second time around are: double the streusel topping (it needs more because it is so delicious) and pre-bake the crust for 15 minutes with a weighted center before filling. Also, I always use Martha Stewart's Pate Brisee recipe for pie crusts, it is light and delicious every time!

Pears...
Martha Stewart's Pate Brisee, my go-to pie crust. It is amazing every time, and easy!

Try it, you'll love it! The pears are way better for pies compared to apples in my mind. This is the pie I will be making for Thanksgiving. I love autumn!

Don't forget to enter today's Dali Decal Giveaway below. The Giveaway ends at 12:00 pm PST on Sunday!

Bev- Totally unrelated, but we have that same electric kettle. We love it. Can't find another like with with the bell to signal the end of the boil.
Your family is too cute and I always love to see babies at the pumpkin patch. Very picturesque.

Do you make the pie crust in your KitchenAid mixer?(that is what it looks like from the pic) All the crust recipes I read call to make it in a food processor, which I don't have. Never thought to use my mixer... does it work ok? I am itching to make a good pie for Thanksgiving, but have never made crust from scratch (I always buy the premade... not so good!)

Nicole, I do make it in my mixer because I don't have a food processor either and it works great! You just need to be careful not to over process. I make sure my butter is very cold and sometimes I grate it rather than cutting it up in pieces (on a large cheese grater) and that helps as well to make it mix faster.

Cute pictures! Where did you get your baby carrier?

I have never thought to use my mixer to make pie crust! I do have a food processor, but it's such work to get our and clean up so I rarely use it. I've always mixed it with a pastry blender by hand and dread making pie crust.

Now I can't wait to make a pie to try it in my mixer!!

Also, for the pears, do you follow the same recipe as for an apple pie? or do you alter anything?

Thanks!!
PS. love your baby carrier too.

The carrier I bought at a local baby shop (Segals for Children). It's actually an Ergo. This pattern was the cheapest one so I bought it, I actually quite like it now!

Click on the Pie's name in the post and it should take you to the recipe on the Cooking Light site. So good!!!

Love love love all the pictures! What a cool market! You make me want to check out our farmers market...something tells me it isn't quite as cool as it sits right by downtown Dallas.

The pie looks yummy. Better than the butterscotch pear pie recipe you posted?
