I had a THIRD ultrasound again (with my dear, close, personal friend "The Wand") today with my regular OB/GYN. I totally wasn't expecting it but hey, I'll take as many as they'll give me. I knew she was so excited, so I was totally expecting her to hug me when she came in the room. Thing is, I wasn't expecting an internal ultrasound, so this was the first time I've hugged a woman with no pants on. There's a first time for everything right?
And one more thing. She saw a nub. A nub! she was looking at the screen and suddenly said,
Dr. W:"Hmmm...I'll be interested to see how your big ultrasound comes up."
Me: "What?? What does that mean??" And I'm all panicking thinking there is a third arm or something.
Dr.W: "Well, I'm absolutely not sure about this but...hmm...yes, I see something. See that? In between the legs?"
Me: "Is that a boy part?" (And yes, I'm 27 and couldn't bring myself to say penis, so sue me).
Dr. W: "Definitely could be, either that or a tailbone, but I think that maybe...it just might be! Don't bet on it, but it is just something that I would be interested to see the outcome on. Don't go painting the room yet."
Thing is, Rob missed this appointment, so he doesn't know about the nub. I had told him it wouldn't be exciting and just boring blood work and stuff so he didn't need to be there. He really, REALLY would love to have the first boy, but I don't want to get him be all excited and then be disappointed. It wouldn't necessarily be disappointment, but he would just be SO excited for a boy. So I'm keeping it to myself, (and yes, apparently the entire Internet), until the big U/S. Maybe we'll see something on the NT scan in a couple weeks and I won't have to burst from secret keeping! Although truthfully, I'll probably break down and tell him...like tonight. I'm such a bad secret keeper!
Case In Point: Damn it, he just got home and came in the room while I was writing this blog and I told him. I have absolutely no willpower whatsoever. None.
Next up, NT scan!

Oh...great news!! A baby boy will be so much fun!
I found your blog through Google reader and I am so excited for you guys. We ended up with IVF babies too after years of "trying"!
I don't want to bust your or your husband's bubble but we were told we had nubs at 14 weeks and ended up with 0 nubs by 20! Maybe your doctor has a better eye than ours did but we went from 2 boys to 2 girls in less than 6 weeks :)
Congrats again!
My fingers are crossed for another boy in the group!!! Go Boy Swimmers!
Having a new years baby would be sooo perfect for your story...what a way to begin the next great year...as a family of 3. Keep writing, we'll keep rooting and wishing the most for you and rob and baby m!
Oh how exciting to possibly have a 2008 baby, what a great way to start the new year! And its probably a boy... that would be so nice =)
exciting news about possibly having a new years baby and maybe a boy??? Good luck with the Nub.
Congrats on the baby news! I just wanted to thank you for the RE recommendation. I emailed him on Friday night, and he emailed me back himself by Monday morning. I was floored- Doctors don't email patients ever! Plus, they are getting me in on July 1st. I expected a long wait. I'm excited!! Thanks again and congrats!
Now we are due date twins!
OH Yay!!! New Year's babies are the best. I know this from personal experience :) The best was my 21st birthday, I was at a house party. After the countdown everyone sang happy birthday to me.
Hooray for a healthy (maybe a boy) baby!
We found out that we were having a boy at our NT scan. It'll be interesting to see if you do get a boy.
Oh YAY!!! I'm so glad everything is going so well!
I'll be excited to see the results, too. On my 11w4d US, the tech said 60-70% boy, but she wasn't putting money down yet. I can send you our pic to compare :)
Love that you EDD was moved up--how funny, since you have already had two other US. Usually they don't move them up if it's only a week difference, or if you have had other 'confirming' US....
I went for my NT scan at 13 weeks, and that's when they moved my due date up by a week (he was born 1 day before this new due date, with all the signs of a "right at term" baby, like super wrinkly feet and hands), AND that was when they told me he'd be a boy. The boy parts were very clearly visible. =)
OH YAH!! We saw a nub too a few months ago. YAH for baby boys!
I've never commented to you before but feel like after reading this, I have to! I also saw a nub at the 12 week u/s and it turns out I'm having a little girl! So listen to your doc and don't go painting the nursery just yet! But it's still exciting to think that might have been your first little sneak peek at your son!
Good luck!
Is it just me, or is the ticker on the right side of the screen ...
Either way, congrats!
Um, how silly do I feel. It is on the RIGHT SIDE! ::smacks head:: This must be the onset of pregnancy brain. Thank you Michaela!
Good luck, boy OR girl baby! I hope the baby is healthy, it will sure be happy with oyu guys as parents. Just don't be too upset or disappointed if you find out it is in fat a girl!
I'm sending you lots of "Baby Born by December 31st" Dust so you can get some lovely tax money. :-)
I can't wait to see what happens with the "nub".
Super News! You and I are exactly the same in our pregnancies. My dad, who is a CPA, has already made the tax break remark. It's great telling folks your due date. Enjoy and congrats!
I saw this post on the nest and thought you might appreciate it as much as I did... for me it was totally true and I'm guessing you'll feel the same way when you're holding your little one 8 months from now :)
