First Early Day...

... so today was the first day of my trial new work schedule of 6am to 3 pm. Here's a rundown.

Woke up at 4:45. Lucy had joined us, as she usually does at some point in the middle of the night, and was all snuggled up into my armpit (lucky for her I did shower the night before in anticipation of my early morning). Rob was snoring on the other side. I was actually wide awake although it was such a nice, snugly place I really didn't want to get up.

I did.

After washing my face and putting on my makeup I was surprised to find a wide awake baby with a wide awake Rob at about 5:15. Oh man, this is going to make for a tired baby later. I get ready and am out of the hour by 5:35...with Rob and Lucy waving goodbye at the door.

I do pretty well at work, getting some solid work done with none of the usual interruptions for a good 2 hours in the morning. I'm feeling good. Totally awake. Amazing...

Fast forward to several hours later... getting a little yawny. A little fuzzy around the edges...

Luckily it was almost 3:00 by the time I started really dragging. Unfortunately, by the time I got home with Lucy I was reeaaally tired. As in I had to fight to keep my eyes open when we were playing on the floor. Not to mention she starting snubbing me again from the time I excitedly picked her up at my moms. I was so excited to be home early, Luce...not so much. Back to being mad at me for going back to work. So that made me sad all over again. It was a tough night.

I realize its a learning curve for all of us. My body needs to adjust to the early mornings. Lucy has to get used to Mama going to work during the day. Hopefully everything will fall into place soon.

It's only the first day. I'm hoping its going to work. I think it might...

Now its time to relax with a cup of tea and the latest season of the Tudors on DVD...and asleep by 9:30.

“Just remember, the same as a spectacular Vogue magazine, remember that no matter how close you follow the jumps: Continued on page whatever. No matter how careful you are, there's going to be the sense you missed something, the collapsed feeling under your skin that you didn't experience it all. There's that fallen heart feeling that you rushed right through the moments where you should've been paying attention. Well, get used to that feeling. That's how your whole life will feel some day. This is all practice. None of this matters. We're just warming up.”

It will get easier! Early to bed and a little caffeine about 2 and you will be fine.

Good luck. Hang in there. When I read your first paragraph about Lucy being snuggled next to you when it was time to wake up, I was thinking "man, she's lucky...Zoe wakes up when I get out of bed." And then I read the second paragraph about a fully awake baby and hubby at 5:15. :-)

Anyhow, I digress. It sounds like this could be a great arrangement once everyone adjusts. Good luck once again!

I can totally relate. I'm only working part-time on Tues, Weds & Thurs, but I'm in the office before 7am on those days and I work until 4. My day flies by, but by the time I get home at night with the two boys, I'm exhausted, but have to be on my game because I want to get as much time in with them as I possibly can. It's an adjustment and I hope it goes smoothly for you!

Good luck with those early morning! Hopefully everything will fall into place; you're so lucky to have an employer/job that is so flexible. I deal with a lot of students, so I don't even get to work till 10am (of course that means I stay till 6 or 7pm - which is going to be a huge issue when we get knocked up!)

It will get easier...probably harder on you than anyone else. At least, that is how I felt when I went back to work!

Just a thought.....are you taking 1 hour for lunch??? Would it be an option to take only 30 minutes so that you can go into the office at 6:30 instead of 6:00????? For some, a half hour wouldn't make that much of a difference, but it may for you : )

Good Luck! Man, you are such a good mom, Bev. You are always making sacrifices and trying your best to do better. Your little Luce is a lucky lady, and she will realize that (maybe after she has kids) but just know you are doing a great job.
I hope the new sched. gets easier.

Maybe you can try 7am-3:30pm with a 30 minutes lunch...

I do early mornings too, so I can get home and be with Maya. You'll get used to it... just get to sleep early. It's hard sometimes when I get home and I'm tired... and have to find the energy somewhere to be enthusiastic and playful. But it works! The things we do as mamas...

I work M-F 6am-2:30pm and when I first started (over 2 years ago) I didnt think it would last. Now, my body has adjusted and I love it! I'm now to the point where I can go to bed at 10/10:30 and still be able to stroll out of bed at 4:45am! :o) Every now and agian, if I've showered the night before, have my lunch already to go and can eat breakfast at work, I stoll out of bed at 5:00. Believe it or not, that 15 minutes makes the world of difference! I have to leave my house at 5:40 in order to get there on time.
Hang in there, it will get easier! Promise!
