Haiti...

It is hell in Haiti. Send your thoughts, prayers and if you're so inclined donate to an aid organization you believe in and trust. I'm planning on donating to the Red Cross tomorrow.

It's situations like this when it seems silly how America absolutely went crazy when the economy tanked. Yes, life was difficult, but times like this really put our idea of hard times into perspective. All around us there are countries lacking infrastructure to withstand such disasters, governments not ready with any sort of aid or even the stability to continue on providing the most basic services when something like this happens. The water is contaminated, the buildings have crumbled, they are on the verge of riots.

Do what you can, even if it is simply offering up your most heartfelt prayers, and count your blessings tonight that you live somewhere warm, that you are comfortable and your stomach is full, that the people you love are safe and nearby. Be thankful...I know I am.

It is truly and utterly heartbreaking. I was in tears for a good portion of the evening after reading a blog about the peril many orphans are in, orphans who are just a couple pieces of paper away from becoming American citizens, who have families WAITING for them here. It's awful.

We gave up Valentine cards for each other next month in exchange for the $10 donation we made to the Red Cross by texting HAITI to 90999. It's not much, but it's something that was easy to do. Hopefully we will be able to give more in the coming weeks and months.

I know, it is so sad! It really makes you feel quite elitist in times like this when we look around at our full fridges, running water and warm houses doesn't it? I pray that those families and people in Haiti can get the relief they need, and the hope they need until relief comes.

This is such a terrible thing they are going through, my prayers are with the people in Haiti. I know some personally that haven't heard from their families as yet and its so so sad. =(

I must have missed this post. I usually try to read your blog daily, but it's been rough for my family these last few days. My family and I are originally from Haiti. Even though my mother's side of the family has mostly lived in the US for many, many years. My step-father has quite a few immediate family members still there. We are lucky enough to have found his 88 year old mother(my grandmother) and his brother and sisters. It did take a few days to find them all but they are doing fine.
It does break my heart to know that places that your parents remembered as children are gone. Just gone. Churches, hospitals, hotels, whole villages are gone. I'm just thankful with this little news of hope. Now today, with this other strong "aftershock", I just have to wait again and pray for good news.
I appreciate the post and your well wishes. I've already donated money and have done some volunteer work. I just hope it'll be enough until I can do some more.
Thanks again,
Sabrina
